The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English Language and Literature Studies (ELLS) Programme is designed to meet one of the most pressing needs in the higher education sector in China today for preparing students to be competitive in the rapidly changing career opportunities worldwide.
The ELLS Programme is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in English studies, while offering at the same time the opportunity to specialize in one of the three areas or ‘concentrations’: Professional Communication, Literary Studies, or English Language Teaching. It provides a multi-disciplinary approach to studying the language and literature applicable to educational, professional and cultural contexts.

The Literary Studies in English (LSE) Concentration and the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Concentration of the ELLS Programme are recognized by the Hong Kong Education Bureau as a language (English) major degree programme. Graduates with either the LSE or the TESOL concentration, together with a relevant teacher's qualification, will be exempted from the English Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers in Hong Kong.
