Note: Applicants for the 5-year Clinical Medicine (English-medium) must have successfully completed basic science courses at the university level and may graduate earlier subject to further review and approval by SUMC's Undergraduate Education Office. Clinical Medicine has been listed in both the national and provincial plans to develop world-class undergraduate courses and has been in the global top 1% of ESI (Essential Science Index) since 2012. The program has also been listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools co-developed by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER). The Virtual Case-based Integrated Training System for Clinical Thinking and Clinical Skills course has been recognized by the Ministry of Education as the National First-Class Course. In 2020, the passing rate of our domestic students in China’s National Medical Licensure Examination ranked 11th overall among the Chinese medical schools and ranked 4th in the practical part. Our students are also encouraged to take part in international assessments and exams such as United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). The English stream medical students taking part in the USMLE Step 1 have passed with an average passing rate of over 91% in the past years, which is close to those of accredited medical schools in the USA. Currently this major has over 373 full-time faculty members, among whom over 62% hold doctorate degrees and 47% have international experience either by studying or working abroad. Students can choose the program conducted in English or Chinese. Their international graduates have been matched into residency positions in USA, Thailand, and Malaysia. Applicants for the 5-year English-medium program who have successfully completed the basic science courses at the university level or hold a Bachelor's degree in Science are eligible to apply to waive for the first year of the program and may graduate earlier subjected to further review and approval by the Undergraduate Education Office. Graduates from Clinical Medicine are eligible to apply for medical licensure to practice as a doctor. The specific application requirements vary from country to country. Duration: 5 Years and 6 Years Graduation, Degree, and Commencement In order to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree from SUMC, you must: Make sure you satisfy all SUMC requirements; Complete all the required courses and pass all the required examinations; Fulfill your financial obligations to the school. Upon successful completion of the program, a Bachelor’s Degree of Medicine accredited by the Ministry of Education of China will be awarded. Commencement for all graduating students is held every year in June. It is a university-wide event. Families, friends, and guests are invited to celebrate this important milestone with their graduates.
